The Art Society of India had organized a plein air painting tour at Devrukh, Sangameshwar and Ratnagiri – all on the Western Ghats of India. A few artists including me, participated in this tour.
Devrukh in the Konkan region is a quiet town with lush greenery, clean air and cool, pleasant mornings and evenings in February.
Ganesh temple is a prominent landmark in Devrukh. The temple also houses a Veda Pathashala - a school where Vedas are taught. Vedas are a large body of religious texts or scriptures in Sanskrit, originating in ancient India.
This is the backside view of the temple.
The urge to sketch, draw and paint has been there since childhood and I loved every minute of the time spent on drawing and painting. But, to take up painting as a full time career, was considered nothing short of fiddling on the roof. And maybe, in some sense it is true, particularly when there are practicalities of life to deal with. After two decades of a "real" job as a banker, I decided to quit banking and follow my heart, finally. This time I studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal, for four years, while I was living in Israel. I have not looked back since. Now I paint full time and I currently live in Mumbai, India.
