On and off, in India, one comes across men in orange robes. They are variously called yogis, sadhus, sanyasis etc. Orange is the color of fire and symbolizes purity that comes from burning away all the impurities within oneself......it signifies a quest for an eternal truth through self-knowledge.
They live an austere life.
Do they find what they seek? That is a question to which I have no answer.
The urge to sketch, draw and paint has been there since childhood and I loved every minute of the time spent on drawing and painting. But, to take up painting as a full time career, was considered nothing short of fiddling on the roof. And maybe, in some sense it is true, particularly when there are practicalities of life to deal with. After two decades of a "real" job as a banker, I decided to quit banking and follow my heart, finally. This time I studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal, for four years, while I was living in Israel. I have not looked back since. Now I paint full time and I currently live in Mumbai, India.
