Description
Satyajit Ray (2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992) was a film maker from India. He made films mainly in Bengali, his mother-tongue. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest film makers of all time. Some of his notable works are Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansar, Charulata, Ghare Baire, Aranyer Din Ratri and Kanchenjunga, among many others.
His films celebrate the commonplace with lyricism and humanity and seem to have a timeless appeal.
He has won many major awards for his work, both within India and outside. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in 1992. He has won several international awards as well, including the Academy Honorary Award in 1992.
This watercolor portrait is a tribute to the filmmaker whose work I admire. It was done in 2014.
