Description
The Art Society of India had organized an on-location painting tour to Manali in Himachal Pradesh in the north of India and nearly forty artists, including me joined this tour. We painted at different places in and around Manali.
The temperatures varied between 6 to 12 degrees Celsius during the day and the night time temperatures dipped to 0 degrees Celsius at times. Most of the days, we had sunshine, yet the weather was unpredictable. The warm sun, the cool mountain air and the breath-taking view of the Himalayas all around us was a blessing, yet we had to work with speed if we had to make the most of it.
The snow-capped Himalayas, the Deodar trees all around, the beautiful, picturesque villages of Jana and Rumsu, the shy simplicity of the mountain folk, the aesthetic, ancient wooden structures they call their homes – we had more inspiration for painting than we could handle.
This is a view of old Manali from the hotel where we stayed. We woke up to the sound of gurgling waters of river Beas, everyday.
