Artist's Description
This is a door inside the Patwon ki Haveli in Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan in India. These beautiful doors are the result of centuries old, traditional carpentry work in Rajasthan and they are known for their intricate carvings. They are often colorful and are painted to complement the surrounding shades of color in the Havelis.
About Uma Krishnamoorthy
The urge to sketch, draw and paint has been there since childhood and I loved every minute of the time spent on drawing and painting. But, to take up painting as a full time career, was considered nothing short of fiddling on the roof. And maybe, in some sense it is true, particularly when there are practicalities of life to deal with. After two decades of a "real" job as a banker, I decided to quit banking and follow my heart, finally. This time I studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal, for four years, while I was living in Israel. I have not looked back since. Now I paint full time and I currently live in Mumbai, India.
