Artist's Description
Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, India is known as the "Golden city" because all of its architecture is made of yellow sandstone and exquisitely sculpted.
Haveli is a traditional mansion in India. Havelis were the elaborate homes of rich merchants, in the times gone by. Today, they have historical and architectural significance.
In Jaisalmer, there are havelis that are hundreds of years old. Some of these have many floors and countless rooms, with decorated windows, archways, doors and balconies.
About Uma Krishnamoorthy
The urge to sketch, draw and paint has been there since childhood and I loved every minute of the time spent on drawing and painting. But, to take up painting as a full time career, was considered nothing short of fiddling on the roof. And maybe, in some sense it is true, particularly when there are practicalities of life to deal with. After two decades of a "real" job as a banker, I decided to quit banking and follow my heart, finally. This time I studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal, for four years, while I was living in Israel. I have not looked back since. Now I paint full time and I currently live in Mumbai, India.
