Description
A group of us visited a small town called Bundi in Rajasthan, to paint 'en plein air'. It is a town that has the remnants of the past - its forts and palaces and step wells - they all give glimpses of the grandeur of the past even to a casual visitor. The past haunts the place at every street corner and every turn one takes, the architecture is breathtaking at times and some of it is in ruins, sadly.
The town itself lives in its languid pace, the weather in early February is cold and chilly during early mornings and late evenings, while the days are warm and windy. Through the day, we all painted choosing different spots and found some interesting paintings by the end of day.
" Woman washing clothes" is a painting about a woman washing clothes in the water tank in front of Shikar Burj. While I was painting the "Temple at Shikar Burj", I noticed this woman who came to the water tank to wash clothes. I also noticed that her head was covered with her saree and I marveled at the fact that it remained effortlessly so throughout the time that she washed the clothes - a strenuous physical activity.
I felt compelled to paint that scene.
