Artist's Description

The Art Society of India had organized a plein air painting tour at Devrukh, Sangameshwar and Ratnagiri in the Konkan region. A few artists including me, participated in this tour.

The Konkan region in India extends throughout the western coasts of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, with the Arabian Sea in the west and the Western Ghats mountain range, also called Sahyadri mountain range in the east. This stretch of land is exceptionally scenic with river valleys and hilly slopes, lush greenery and clean air. It is also dotted with red houses.

The urge to sketch, draw and paint has been there since childhood and I loved every minute of the time spent on drawing and painting. But, to take up painting as a full time career, was considered nothing short of fiddling on the roof. And maybe, in some sense it is true, particularly when there are practicalities of life to deal with. After two decades of a "real" job as a banker, I decided to quit banking and follow my heart, finally. This time I studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal, for four years, while I was living in Israel. I have not looked back since. Now I paint full time and I currently live in Mumbai, India.
