Description
Flora fountain is an exquisitely sculpted architectural heritage monument located at the "Fort" business district in the heart of south Mumbai.
The very top pf the fountain is adorned by "Flora", a Roman Goddess of flowers and the season of spring.
Whenever I had visited Mumbai, before I began living here, I was fascinated by the soft charm exuded by "Flora" in the heart of Mumbai, which is considered the commercial capital of India. The contradiction between her tender grace and what Mumbai represents could not be more obvious.
Wikipaedia provides the following lines from a Gujarati poem about "Flora" written by Niranjan Bhagat and translated into English:
A Glass and concrete jungle;
In its midst always
Quiet, comely,
With hope filled face,
she stands
Flora
A dream of spring in her matchless eyes,
holding in both hands stone flowers.
About her, in all corners,
Iron butterflies fly round and round
And lifeless insects play

What a fantastic painting, Uma. ....Just love the swirl of the dress, the abundant curls...and sweetness! F/L++

Thanks, Nancy. I am always in awe of how they bring out the sweetness of expression in a sculpture!
